The MSFriends helpline is staffed with volunteers with MS in our MSFriends Guided Outreach program. We are dedicated to providing the best help to the MS community by "Friends Helping Friends".

The following requirements are necessary for MSFriends Peer Support Volunteers.

personal requirements

  • Must either have Multiple Sclerosis or be a care partner of someone with Multiple Sclerosis

  • Good Listener

  • Compassionate

  • 2 years experience working with people living with MS either as a peer support volunteer or working directly with MS patients through medical field

  • Able to handle emergency situations with calm

  • Basic knowledge of Multiple Sclerosis, symptoms and management

  • Able to volunteer approximately 5 hours per week

  • Must be reliable
    (because of the unpredictability of multiple sclerosis, we understand that unforeseen problems may arise and we will need to be willing to help fill in for each other during these times)

  • Must have internet access - high speed recommended (cable or DSL)

  • Must know computer basics

  • PC Requirements:

    Windows XP or Vista
    512MB RAM (1GB preferred)
    1024 x 768 pixel display

    FireFox 2.0 or higher

  • Mac Requirements:

    Mac OS X (10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5)
    1GB RAM
    1024 x 768 pixel display

    Browsers:
    Safari 1.0 or higher (1.0, 1.2, 2.0, 3.0 all work well)
    Firefox 2.0 or higher
